Physical Development
This week we are learning all about the body.
Food challenge: To keep our bodies healthy we need to eat lots of fruit and vegetables! Can you make a yummy healthy fruit salad with your adult?
Here is a link to a fun easy to make recipe: https://realfood.tesco.com/recipes/fruit-salad.html
Have fun and I can’t wait to see all your yummy creations!
PE Challenge: Target Tubs
Find a range of empty boxes, tubs and containers.
Put them on their side so that an object can be rolled into them.
Make different-sized paper balls.
Stand at an achievable distance away from the target and try to roll the object into it.
Maths
This week we are practising our counting!
We are doing body part counting.
Our bodies are a brilliant resource for practicing counting skills. How many ears do you have, how many eyes do you have, how many arms do you have?!
We can also count on each other’s bodies – how many fingers does Daddy have? Can you count Mummy’s toes?
After counting various body parts, can you write down the corresponding numerals and maybe even draw a picture for each?
Super maths challenge!
Can you count how many toes your whole family has? How many legs does your family have all together?
And can you draw a picture of your whole body?
How many eyes will you need? How many fingers do you need to draw?
Don’t forget to practice your number formations as well!
Literacy/Mark-Making Activities for the Week
Continuing with name recognition and encouraging them to trace/write their name independently!
Story of the Week – Miss Farmer reading ‘Ruby’s Worry by Tom Percival’
Comprehension Questions:
How did Ruby make her worry smaller?
What should you do when you have a worry?
Is there anything that you worry about?
Who can you to talk to if you have a worry?
Miss Farmer’s Super Challenge!
Can you draw a picture of how you are feeling today? Are you feeling happy, sad, excited?
Why do you think you are feeling like this?
You can post a picture of it onto Tapestry or ClassDojo. I can’t wait to see them!
RE
We have been looking at the importance of gathering in RE.
This week we are going to explore the importance of people gathering in a Church setting.
Word of God
Where two or three are gathered together in my name I am there among them.
(Matthew: 18:20)
Watch this video all about why it is important for Christians to gather together in Church – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qj9QvNjhmk8
Once you have watched the video with your child ask why they think that it is important to gather in a church setting?
Have they ever gathered themselves in a church setting?
If so, how did it make them feel?
RE Activity:
Can you draw a picture of yourself in a church setting?
Don’t forget to draw a priest and the holy cross!
You can show your child some pictures of the inside of a church for reference if they have not had the opportunity to visit one.
Phonics
Continue with the Phonics Song – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BELlZKpi1Zs
Continue practicing your Set 1 RWI sounds
Focus sound for the week: L – ‘Down the long leg.’
Now who can remember if this is a stretch or bouncy sound?
Think of words/toys/objects that begin with the sound ‘l’ – you might want to write down their ideas or get them to draw a picture of the object!
Now get a pen and have a go at writing the letter ‘l’ yourself !
Remember to say the rhyme ‘down the long leg’ when you are practising your letter formation.
Art
As we are learning about the body this week, I would like you to make your own self portrait!
You will need to have a mirror to look into to have a look at the different parts of your face.
You will need some paper and some colouring pencils.
What colour are your eyes?
What colour s your skin and hair?
Do you have long hair or short hair?
What shape is your face?
How many ears do you need to draw?
I can’t wait to see all your brilliant self-portraits on ClassDojo or Tapestry!
Topic/ Science
This week we are going to be scientists and do an experiment with our heart!
We are going to see if when we have been moving our bodies lots our heartbeat gets quicker.
You will need a timer, a pen and some paper.
Ask your adult if they can help you time 20 seconds.
When the timer is going you can put your hand over your heart, or on your pules on your neck and count how many pumps you can feel, ask your adult for help if you can’t feel it.
Keep your hand on your heartbeat for 20 seconds and count how many beats you can feel.
Once 20 seconds has finished write this number down on some paper, if it is a big number ask your adult to help you.
Now I want you to do 10 big star jumps. Now jump like a pencil 10 times.
Once finished get your adult to help you to set the timer to 20 seconds and count how many beats that you can feel this time again.
Now have a look at your numbers. Is the number bigger after you did some exercise?
This is because your heart is working harder to pump blood to your muscles. How amazing!
